Lt. Governor e-inaugurates Rs. 30 cr worth 12 community centres in Srinagar

Commends Srinagar administration for the effort, suggests proper maintenance, upkeep of the assets

SRINAGAR, NOVEMBER 18: Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu e-inaugurated 12 community centres established in Srinagar city.

The inauguration of the community centres comes after fast-tracking their completion during recent months.

These centres which are located at Sarai Balla, Karfali Mohalla, Dalgate, Bagh-e-Mehtab, Jamia Masjid Nowhatta, Noorbagh, Aalikadal, Gulshanabad, Balhama, Daulatabad, Koolipora and Gadoodbagh areas of Srinagar city address space constraints which make it hard for residents during occasions of gatherings.

These centres constructed at an aggregated cost of around Rs. 30 crore offer much-needed space alternatives and at affordable prices that can be used for different community functions.

Each centre has multiple facilities ranging from separate changing rooms as well as toilets for ladies and gents to bridal rooms to service rooms to cooking sheds apart from halls for gatherings.

Speaking on the occasion the Lieutenant Governor commended the Srinagar district administration for establishment of these centres which he said will be of great help as far as community programmes are concerned.

He emphasised the need for special measures for maintenance and upkeep of these centres suggesting  an annual contract for their maintenance.

Earlier, in his presentation, Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary informed that these centres would benefit a population of tens of thousands of people put together facilitating commemoration of weddings and other functions and occasions of gatherings. He said that bookings for these centres can also be made on user-friendly mobile application called Majlis, which was also launched today.

Several agencies including JKPCC, PWD, Housing Board and SDA were involved in their construction. These centres are being handed over to Srinagar Municipal Corporation for management and upkeep.

Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan were also present on the occasion.
