Libya protesters storm parliament building

tripoli, July 2 (UNI) Protesters in Libya stormed the country’s parliament in the eastern city of Tobruk and have set fire to parts of the building, BBC reported on Saturday.

Images posted online showed thick columns of smoke emanating from near the parliament building as the demonstrators burned tyres outside.

People have been protesting in several Libyan cities against continuing power cuts, rising prices and political deadlock.

In the capital, Tripoli, where a rival administration holds sway, protesters called for elections.

Their demand was backed by the head of the interim unity government, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, who said all the country’s institutions needed to be changed.
