Leh, February 19: A meeting of Stone Crusher Plant owners of Leh with Divisional Forest Officer, Leh and DO PCB Leh was convened by the Chairman District Advisory Committee on Environment (DACE) Phunchok Stanzin Executive Councillor for Agriculture & Environment at Council Secretariat today afternoon to aware them about the guidelines of Pollution Control Board in their day today activities.
EC Phunchok briefing Crusher owners about the DACE urged them to fallow the Environmental Guidelines to save the fragile environment of Ladakh. He said that stone crusher are important in infrastructure sector especially roads and buildings but at the same time poses many challenges to maintain air quality, dust emissions creating health hazards to the surrounding population, affects visibility, reduces growth of vegetation and hampers aesthetics of the area.
Regarding issuance of proper license to the Crusher Plant owners, EC Phunchok assured to take necessary steps soon and cautioned that if any crusher plant found violating the guidelines of PCB in upcoming working season heavy penalty will be imposed as per law.
EC directed DO PCB Leh Rukhsana Parveen to educate stone crashers owners about the pollution control measures including erection of G.I. Sheets cover, water sprinkling system to suppress the dust generated due to material handling/loading/unloading activity, plantation at the site etc.
