Sowa Rigpa organises plantation drive, plants 1500 trees of different species 

Leh: The National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Leh  organized a plantation drive in advance celebration of World Environment Day (June 5) at Trans Himalayan Herbal Garden of National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa opposite Phey village, Leh. 

Principal Secretary, Health, Forest, Ecology and Environment, UT Ladakh, Pawan Kotwal inaugurated the plantation drive. Director, National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, Dr. Padma Gurmet, Officers, staff of National Institute of Sowa-Rigpa, and Senior Officers of C.P.W.D Leh along with, Superintendent Engineer, R.P Gupta and Senior Architect, Biswajit Ray participated in the plantation drive. 

The Principal Secretary inspected the work of expansion of the Herbal Garden undertaken by the CPWD like terracing of new area, laying irrigation channels, construction of bore-well etc. He further asked the CPWD authorities to install automatic water meters on the bore-wells so that the quantity of the water output could be continuously monitored.

The Principal Secretary also asked the CPWD to design two View Points in the shape of octagonal gazebos on the Indus River side.

Around 1500 trees of different species including juniper, willow tree, Russian olive, and medicinal plants were planted on this occasion.
