NGOs to support DACE in devising environment policy for Leh

Leh, February 19: The Chairman District Advisory Committee on Environment (DACE) Phunchok Stanzin Executive Councillor for Agriculture & Environment today convened a meeting of NGOs working in the field of environment in Leh to invite their suggestion and feedbacks for devising an environment policy for Leh district.
The meeting was attended by ADC/CEO LDA Leh Dr. Zahida Bano, Secretary DACE Divisional Forest Officer, Leh Mohd Ali, A.D Tourism Tsering Angmo, DO PCB Leh Rukhsana Parveen, Dorjey Tundup MC Leh, Eshey Tundup Executive Director LEDeG, Tashi Thokmet Dy. Director, LEHO, and Eshey Paljor, Tsering Tundup from LNP

Updating the meeting about the ongoing deliberations for formulating an environment policy for Leh under the banner of DACE with different stakeholders, EC Phunchok said that DAEC is focusing on finding immediate solution to protect and conserve the fragile environment of Ladakh and has already intervened in finding solutions. He said that besides devising plans to use funds collected under Environmental Fee for the cause of environment, DACE is working on formulating an ecofriendly environmental policy for Leh involving all the stakeholders.

The meeting had fruitful deliberations on water conservation, artificial glacier, redesigning of local dry toilets in urban and rural areas of Leh, maintenance of public toilets, outsourcing of toilets, awareness programmes on cleanliness, ecotourism and responsible tourism, future plans for tourist destinations of Leh to control pollution etc.

EC Punchok urged NGOs to give their proposal in written to DAEC so that their constructive suggestions could be incorporated while formulating environment policy for Leh.
